I just wanted to let you know I spotted two barn owls in West Field on Tuesday 7 July at around 10pm. The first was nearby (the north end, hunting, it swooped down and was out of sight in the long grass for a good minute or two).
Meanwhile I spotted another at the south end which flew along the perimeter hedge and then south towards the housing estate down Aldcliffe Lane. The one in the long grass then flew up (nothing in its beak) and flew along the far hedge line and off in the same direction as the other owl.
It was quite magical!
We’ve seen one owl out hunting a bit in West Field between 10pm and midnight at the end of June particularly during the heatwave, but never two.
Although we have heard their “death screech” at night.
