Birds Around the Reserve

At the feeding station

This autumn we have seen flocks of chaffinch, plus reed bunting, goldfinch, greenfinch, stock dove , blackbird, robin, blue and great tits, jackdaw, wood pigeon at the feeding station as well as pheasant of course.

Elsewhere

Elsewhere in the reserve we have reports of greater spotted woodpecker, tree creeper, nuthatch, stonechat, goosander, sparrow hawk, snipe, water rail, jay and barn owl.

The barn owl was seen in Big Meadow at 5.40am on 4 December.

Conservation concern

Although chaffinch are considered a common bird their numbers appear to be dropping and green finch, although recovering are still red listed, i.e of greatest conservation concern.

Many thanks

Many thanks to those who go out at daybreak, or thereabouts, whatever the weather to distribute  the seed.
