Fairfield Website Style Guide

Lots of different people read the Fairfield Association website on different devices. To make your writing easy to read and accessible, follow these simple guidelines:

  • Use plain English.
  • Put the key point first.
  • Keep sentences short (aim for 20–25 words or fewer).
  • Use the active voice.
  • Keep paragraphs short (about 3–4 sentences).
  • Use clear headings and bullet points so readers can scan.
  • Use descriptive link text (avoid “click here”).

Style guides

Use the Guardian online style guide. It is designed for clear web content. If something isn’t covered there, refer to the University of Oxford Style Guide. If they conflict, follow the Guardian.
