A free fun day for all

There will be several tents with a variety of things to see. There will be habitat exhibits and other items on woodland, heathland  and coastal wildlife as well as photographic displays.

In the morning we will be emptying moth traps. There will be children’s trails through the orchard. To get out and see wildlife we are scheduling half-hour guided walks throughout the day on different themes including birds, wildflowers, butterflies, grasses & lichens, spiders, insects and pond dipping. For those who want to learn: practical 10-minute pollinator surveying sessions will be held to show how it’s done – which you can then do in your own garden or anywhere.

We’ll also have a table full of information leaflets about many local wildlife groups and what they do. The Fairfield Association will have a refreshments tent with drinks and homemade cakes.

Where is the Orchard?

It is a couple of minutes’ walk along a public footpath leading from the end of Sunnyside Lane in Lancaster LA1. If you are driving to it, drive down Ashfield Avenue (near the railway station, off Westbourne Road) to access Sunnyside Lane.

The Sunnyside Lane entrance immediately off Westbourne Road is rather narrow to drive down. Just walk along the right-hand side of the cottage at the end of Sunnyside Lane and keep going!
