This is a short summary of what has happened in December and January along with news about upcoming events and activities.
Playground news
All the old benches have now been removed and the new ones should be in place by 20 February. Thanks to everyone for their understanding while this work is being done.
Nature Reserve and Orchard updates
Lucy Brook restoration project
Following confirmation of funding from Lancashire Environment Fund, we have held further discussions on site with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust contracts team leader. Work will now start in autumn 2026.
Meanwhile there will be a detailed botanical survey of the site giving a base-line assessment. You can keep up with the latest news on the Lucy Brook restoration project webpage.
Community sapling planting
There were 21 people who joined in to plant 400 saplings in West Field on 10 January. Many thanks to all those involved.
As they grow, the saplings will provide a much thicker hedge, which should encourage more birds and other wildlife.
2026 Calendar
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the 2026 Fairfield Calendar. This includes all the photographers, the team who make the selection, liaise with the printer and organise the sales and marketing, and all who support us by buying the calendar and cards . This year we made over £1,200.
2027 Calendar submissions
Please continue to submit your photos throughout the coming months for the next calendar. We now have a fantastic new online submission form, which makes this really easy.
We also have a separate Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page with information about the type of photographs we need.
