School and Group Visits to Fairfield Nature Reserve and Community Orchard
The Fairfield Association welcomes visits to the Nature Reserve and Orchard by schools, Cubs, Beavers, Brownies and other community groups.
We are extremely fortunate to have access to funding with which we can provide FREE tuition during your visit. This is delivered by qualified, experienced and enthusiastic tutors. We may also be able to assist with the cost of your transport should you not be within walking distance of the reserve.
Some of the KS1 and KS2 curriculum areas for which the site is ideally suited include Science and Environment, Art, Literacy, Geography, Mapwork and Community studies.
It is an excellent place for Cubs, Beavers and Brownies to work towards badges and awards.
The Orchard is the perfect setting for those early year explorations and activities including a first look at nature and, of course, summer picnics!
The Curriculum Support page, the School Activities leaflet and the Cubs, Beavers and Brownies leaflet will give you an idea of the activities that we can offer, together with suggestions for activities for you to do prior to and after your visit.
We have a selection of equipment for use during your visit. These include binoculars, collecting pots, identification sheets and age appropriate worksheets.
Planning a Visit
If you would like to make a tutored visit to the nature reserve or wish to discuss a possible visit, then please first contact us at: education AT fairfieldassociation DOT org (characters replaced to avoid spam).
It is recommended that teachers and group leaders make a visit of their own prior to bringing their students . It is the responsibility of the visiting group to do a Risk Assessment of their own prior to the visit. We can provide a generic Risk Assessment on which you can base your own assessment.
You and your school or group are very welcome to make independent visits to the Orchard whenever you wish. If you intend to make a visit without our input, it would be helpful if you could let us know when you intend to do this, in order to avoid visiting when another group is here.
Fantastic visit which really enhanced learning in school. Highly enjoyable and super facilities. (Ryelands School)
Well prepared and organised. Age appropriate. Brilliant staff with impressive knowledge.
Many thanks to you and your team for all the effort you have put in creating fun and engaging activities for our visits to the Orchard this year. The children have enjoyed themselves very much and learnt a great deal by coming throughout the seasons. It was so rewarding to see the wild flower bed blooming! (Dallas Rd Year 3)
